DFC Submissions
We are always lookings for new strips to go in The DFC so if you are a writer or illustrator working to a professional standard we'd very much like to see your work. We are looking for both serious and funny stories, long running and short stories and one off pagers that will amuse and delight.
Please read the guidlines below for more details and then email us your submission at submissions@thedfc.co.uk.
Or post it to us at:
THE DFC, 31 Beaumont Street, Oxford, OX1 2NP, United Kingdom.
WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR
- New and original stories in all genres that will excite children aged 8 and up
- Contemporary and exciting art.
- Strips from single panel to a maximum of five pages (A4) in length (ongoing and stand-alone).
- Contributors working in teams or alone. If you have a story we love, or an illustrative style we think would be great for The DFC, we can help team you with the perfect artist or author).
WHAT WE’RE NOT
- An experimental art-house. We love graphic art in all its forms, but out-there illustrative styles and funky textual riffs are not the approach we are aiming for with The DFC. There are plenty of other outlets for that. The DFC is for open, accessible material that can be enjoyed by every child.
- An educational magazine. The DFC will help children develop their literacy skills because it is an exciting read, not because it attempts to teach.
SUBMISSION GUIDELINES
- The more information you give us the better we can judge your work.
- Include a short biography so we know who you are.
- If you have an idea for a comic strip please send us a detailed overview of the strip including; projected page length of each episode, length of the overall story, rough visuals and at least one finished episode.
- If you are an artist just send us a selection of your work, character drawings, finished pieces etc.
- Remember that The DFC is for children.
WHAT HAPPENS NEXT?
- The DFC is already receiving a high volume of submissions. Because we like to look very carefully at each one it may take up to eight weeks to hear back from us.
- We can not return submitted projects/artwork so don't send anything you wouldn't want to lose!
